Wildwind Sponsors UK Laser Association Events

Wildwind are sponsoring 2 major UK Laser Association events in 2012 – the Masters National Championship & the Grand Prix series.

Both holidays are offered in a way that will encourage participation – the more events that you attend, the better your chances of winning!

Gary Pilgrim, happy winner of the first of 2 sailing holidays in Vassiliki  – won his in a draw at the Laser Masters Nationals in Paignton in July. The second prize will be decided at the last Grand Prix event of the season.

Both prizes include a week’s holiday in windy Vassiliki on the beautiful Greek island of Lefkas, home of Wildwind sailing and of the Vassiliki Watersports Festival – which this year included a Laser slalom event for the first time ever.

To encourage participation in the ten regional series one holiday will be drawn from all the qualifiers in the 10 Grand Prix Series this year.By doing an extra event or two and qualifying for an overall series prize helms will also qualify for this extra free draw, which will take place at the UKLA Inland Championships in early November.

The holidays include flight from London Gatwick, overseas transfers, accommodation and as much sailing as you can handle – you can even join in Wildwind’s special Laser training weeks with Chris Gowers, British Head Olympic team coach  – see below.

Wildwind Holidays have had a tradition of supporting sailing events, clubs and associations.  Simon Morgan, Wildwind’s founder, had so much enjoyment from participating in well organised competitions, that he felt it only right that he should give something back to the sport that he loves.   Beneficiaries have been the East Coast Piers Race which WW have supported for more than 10 years and where more than £20,000 was given to the race’s favourite charity this year, the British & European Hobie Cat Class Association, the F18, Hurricane and Shearwater Association’s, Weston Sailing Club and, of course, the Vassiliki Watersports Festival, now Greece’s largest watersports festival and this year to include a LASER SLALOM (see below for VIDEO) event for the first time.

In the photo are Wildwind staff members in 2011 and previous National Laser Squad members, Rob Spencer and Rob Partridge along with physicist and drummer Johnny 2 shots Randall (who opens the London Olympics) at the Vassiliki 2011 Festival!

Here’s Rob Spencer showing off his moves and registering 18 kts in flat water in Vassiliki bay in 2010 – this video has already passed the 30,000 mark on Youtube.  It’s worth a look!

Staff knockout round of the Laser Slalom – John Bishop struts his way to the final while Wildwind boss Simon Morgan demonstrates his knowledge of racing is limited to multihulls! Eventually Rob Spencer won the 500 euros prize money in the main event final of the Vassiliki Watersports Festival.
